Much loved local places to sip and gnosh

One of our favorite parts of living in the Shenandoah Valley is the bounty of quality, farm-to-table sourced ingredients featured in numerous local eateries.

Sips

Perk Place Coffee Company

Perk Place Coffee Company is hands down our FAVORITE place locally for a cup of joe.Not to mention it is owned by close friends of ours, husband and wife team, Derick and Danielle Coffey, who learned the artistry of coffee in the Pacific Northwest. You can find us here every morning for our caffeine fix and morning chat. We frequently meet with clients here too! Caffeine, community, clients…oops we mean friends. What more could you ask for? And when they are super busy you might find us behind the counter too.

CrossKeys Vineyard

CrossKeys Vineyard, where the rolling vineyards blend into mountain views and you can sit on the expansive terrace sipping award winning vintages, listening to live music. CrossKeys is a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Summer nights bring salsa dancing under the stars on the terrace. Grab friends and attend a sip and splash paint class or attend the annual New Years Eve Gala that benefits St. Jude Children’s Hospital. An afternoon spent with friends, enjoying a bottle of Joy Red or Joy White, and snacks from their bistro is afternoon well spent.

Bluestone Vineyard

Bluestone Vineyard might just have the best views of any vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley. The location high on a hillside offers sprawling views of the Valley that take our breath away. Fairly new to the viticulture scene, the vintners at Bluestone are quickly making a name for themselves by producing beautifully crafted boutique wines. We love the Moscato.

Brothers Craft Brewing

Brothers Craft Brewing, located in a renovated soda bottling plant, (repurposing is something we love) and founded by three siblings, (we also have mad love for a family run business) is a community minded brewery. Not only do they craft nationally recognized beers but they also support the community and consider the community to be extended family. You may have seen their beers in your local Costco!

Seven Arrows Brewing Co

Seven Arrows Brewing Co is located just minutes from our office and it is not uncommon to find us on the deck, after work, with friends and family. We love the laidback vibe that emanates from Seven Arrows. On Saturdays, you can attend OM Brew and get your yoga on and enjoy a complimentary beer afterwards.

Barren Ridge Vineyards

Barren Ridge Vineyards, just around the corner from our office is housed in a repurposed apple packing barn on a piece of property that has been in the family since 1934. This small, yet state-of-the-art winery, is a popular place for Augusta County locals. The relaxed, and dog friendly, atmosphere is a tranquil escape. On Friday and Saturday evenings live music streams from the tasting room, and on Firelight Fridays popular local food trucks offer a plethora of options. Pork and Cork on Fourth of July, the Swedish Fire Festival at the end of January and the Wine to Vine 5k held every June are popular events.

Blue Mountain Brewery

Blue Mountain Brewery is a true farm brewery, growing their own hops. Located off Rt. 151 in Nelson County, BMB is just a short drive from the City of Staunton (we are talking 20 minutes). BMB was the FIRST brewery to open in Nelson County and their brews, ales and lagers, are brewed, bottled, canned and kegged at one of their two locations in Nelson County. The beverage menu at BMB features other local cideries and kombucha. Whether you like a pale ale, or a bourbon barrel imperial stout, BMB has something for everyone. Not to mention their pizzas are amazing!

Devils Backbone

Devils Backbone, on the southern end of 151, in Nelson County is just a short drive from Wintergreen Resort. A great place to sit around a fire pit on a fall evening with friends. We however are bigger fans of the Devils Backbone Outpost located in Lexington, VA. Though the building is 15,000 square feet, and houses the brewing and bottling operations for DB, there is a quaint, friendly, local atmosphere that has a comfortable feeling. You can bring your own food and have a picnic in the bier garden.

Rockbridge Vineyard

Rockbridge Vineyards is our sanctuary. Enough said. Winemakers Shep and Jane Rouse have not only cultivated the land to produce phenomenal vines and wines but they have cultivated an atmosphere where worries melt away. Tucked in the crook of a road in Raphine, VA ,between hillsides of vines and a pond, the property has a restful, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Sit outside on the deck or enjoy the Adirondack chairs in the sweet grass, listen to the rustle of the vines in the wind, the songs of the birds and instantly feel life's stressors disappear. Our biggest challenge when we come to Rockbridge Vineyards is deciding which of their many wines to enjoy-everything here is exceptional, we think.

Grilled Cheese Mania is one of those places that can cure anything! Heartbreak, sore muscles from too much time in the gym, family drama, summer colds, winter chills or house hunter’s stress. The ooey gooey cheesy wonderfulness, homemade tomato soup that reminds you of your Italian Nonna’s kitchen, and freshly made limeade provide comfort and restoration. It is soooooo good we almost don’t want to tell you where it is located-but there is a reason GCM is #1 food destination in Harrisonburg, VA on TripAdvisor and why they consistently win Best Food Truck in the Shenandoah Valley by Virginia Living Magazine. P.S. they have mac and cheese too.

The Little Grill Collective

The Little Grill Collective is a Harrisonburg, "Rocktown," original and it is worker owned. We love that business model! In operation since 2003, the LGC uses locally sourced ingredients and is known throughout the area for their breakfast, especially the seasonal pancakes and locally roasted coffee. On a cool fall morning, we will stand in line, for what feels like forever, for a stack of the sweet potato pancakes…though the Blue Monkey pancakes with blueberries and bananas is a solid choice too. Then there is the breakfast burrito with local farm eggs…can you tell we love breakfast?
